From September 2025 Google restricts political advertising in the EU as defined by the TTPA regulation, including ads by or for political actors and ads intended to influence elections or referendums. Advertisers were asked to self-declare political ad intent from mid-August 2025; the EU Political Ads Transparency Report was discontinued.
Exemptions are available for qualifying official government communications. Suspensions carry a 7-day warning. The same restriction was applied to Shopping ads via Merchant Center, and later to the Google Ads API. Historical EU election ads remain viewable in the Ads Transparency Center.
