Google published the merchant help page for Universal Commerce Protocol checkout, explaining that only listings carrying the native_commerce (checkout_eligibility) attribute display the Buy button in AI Mode and Gemini, that Google Pay tokens are used with the merchant as merchant of record, and that merchants apply for early access.
Initially limited to US merchants in an early access program; the help page later lists the US, Canada and Australia. Merchants also need a Google Pay & Wallet Console account and a PSP that accepts Google Pay tokens. A dedicated native_commerce attribute spec page was published in August 2026.
